“You never change things by fighting the existing reality.
To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”
~ R, Buckminster Fuller
Here lies my story as a new mama striving to raise a little slice of heaven along with my paramour and our newborn son. As a dancer/bartender turned naturopath, I have seen the gamut of what cosmopolitan life in California has to offer. The company I keep spans from musicians and artists to chefs and shamans. Amidst an onslaught of conventions, together we envision what conscious lifestyles can co-create of our communal human potential.
“The hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world” and I have gathered with my fellow mamas to seed the birth of heaven on earth as it evolves in our and future generations. This mission calls for spearheading innovations along with reverence for ancestral wisdom. It was from this inspiration, that The Feral Life was born.
Built on the cornerstones of Beauty, Freedom, Truth, and Love, The Feral Life dares to dream of what could be. Of a world without pestilence, famine, war, and death. Of a world not monetized by money, but instead flourished by creativity and resourcefulness where Time = Money Art. Along my journey I have realized that we are both the cause of and solution to all of our life’s problems, and that our individual habits and aspirations exponentially impact the collective.
So what is The Feral Life?!
The term “feral” often conjures images of uncivilized barbarians in loin cloths or a primitive way of life devoid of modern technologies and comforts. I however embrace the interpretation of “feral” as being: wild; free; having escaped domestication; self-willed; indigenous; and, living in a state of nature.
The opposite of “feral” (i.e. “civilized”) is defined as: broken; busted; tamed; subdued; controlled…sound familiar?
“In our rich consumers’ civilization we spin cocoons around ourselves and get possessed by our possessions.”
~ Max Lerner
Contrary to Darwinist theory, is it possible that instead of gradual refinement that in many ways humanity has de-evolved? The advancements of science, medicine, technology, and industry are no doubt impressive but are incomparable to the genius of the natural world. In fact, it can be observed that all the innovations of today and throughout history are but crude replications of our Creator’s grand design. So, in essence, we already have all that we need, innately!
As a new mama, it is my intent to raise my child with appreciation and command of his own power, instead of sacrificing it to convenience and entertainment. Likewise, may this site serve as resource and inspiration to you and your family – for it truly takes a village. Our task now is not to reinvent the wheel or start with a clean slate, but to acknowledge where we are and where we want to be, for a self-sufficient, sustainable, and fabulously Feral Life!
“Only the free-wheeling artist-explorer, non-academic, scientist-philosopher, mechanic, economist-poet who has never waited for patron-starting and accrediting of his co-ordinate capabilities holds the prime initiative today.”
